Erie, Pa. – Sophomore
Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) placed fourth to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the rain-shortened Michael Corbett Fall Classic hosted by Gannon University at the par-72, 5803-yard Whispering Woods Golf Club. The 11 teams were able to play Sunday's 18 holes, but heavy rain in the area prevented Monday's round from being started.
Franklin Pierce University was declared the champion of the team competition after carding a 307 in the first round. The host Golden Knights tallied a 309 in the first round to place second, while Millersville University was third with a 324. The Dolphins turned in a 345 to place seventh. Franklin Pierce's Phisonlaya Ruayruen earned medalist honors after registering a four-under par 68 on Sunday.
Avotins fired a career-best round of 76 to place fourth in the field of 64 competitors. She is just the sixth Dolphin to record a round of 76 or under. Avotins, who registered a 77 on the course in April, posted 12 pars and birdied the par-5 12th hole.
Freshman
Thais Forbes (Atlanta, Ga./Coral Gables (Fla.)) finished in a three-way tie for 27th place with a season-best 85, which included seven pars and a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole.
Senior
Meghan McKeen (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) placed 40th with a 91, while freshman
Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tied for 45th with a 93.
The Dolphins are back in action at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Green Meadows Golf Club in Hudson, N.H.
