PEPPER AND SIMEONOVA ADVANCE TO DOUBLES QUARTERFINALS TO LEAD WOMEN’S TENNIS AT ITA EAST REGIONAL

| Box Score 4 Flushing, N.Y. – Junior Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) and freshman Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles competition to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team at the ITA East Regional Thursday through Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center.

The team of Pepper and Simeonova, the 13th seed, opened play with an 8-5 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College's Giovanna Jallas and Ayesha Burnett in the round of 32. They followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the District of Columbia's Bellucco and Simone Parn, the fifth seed, in the round of 16. They fell in the quarterfinals to Franklin Pierce University's Maria Penalver Aguilo and Aynara Ferraz, the 14th seed, 7-5, 6-2.

Freshman Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset), who was seeded 26th, tallied a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the round of 64 over Franklin Pierce's Zoe Asterio Correa. She then recorded a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win over Vera Gak Anagrova from St. Thomas Aquinas. She was knocked out, 6-2, 6-0, by St. Thomas Aquinas' Samanta Villegas Robles in the round of 16.

Simeonova opened the regional by defeating Dominican's Rupkatha Mukherjee, 8-3, in the round of 128. She then was upended by Queens College's Gabriela Sciarrotta, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.

Pepper recorded an 8-2 win over Chestnut Hill College's Annika Wise in the round of 128. She then fell to Laura Marie of the District of Columba, the 31st seed, 6-1, 7-5.

Sophomore Brooke Tutor (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) posted an 8-2 victory over Dominican's Ava O'Brien in the round of 128. She was knocked out of the regional by the sixth seed, Maja Makal of Queens College, with back-to-back scores of 6-1.

Sophomore Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta), who was seeded ninth, fell in the round of 64 to American International College's Natalija Vlacic, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-8.

Senior Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) fell in the round of 64 to the 20th seed, Sofia Bellucco of the District of Columbia, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Freshman Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey), the 30th seed, was downed in the round of 64 by Southern New Hampshire University's Alina Kupfer, 6-4, 6-3.

Casares and Alvarez fell in the round of 64 to Wilmington University's Marley Trifunovic and Valentina Ivankovic, 8-4.

Barona and Lilliegren fell to Southern New Hampshire's Alina Kupfer and Verena Weind, 8-5, in the round of 32.

The Dolphins return to NE10 action on Wednesday at the Skytop Tennis Courts against Franklin Pierce University at 2:00 p.m.
