Syracuse, NY – Le Moyne College women's and men's cross-country team both placed third overall in the Annual Frank Dillon Memorial Invitation here at Le Moyne College. Senior
Camryn Cortez (Syracuse N.Y./Westhill) placed eighth to lead the women to a third-place finish, while redshirt sophomore
Matt Bartolotta (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) finished second followed by redshirt sophomore
Nick Berg (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) coming in at third to guide the men's team to a third-place finish as well.
"It was great to get back to racing," said head coach
Robin Wheeless. "This race was a bit of a rust buster. We will need to tighten up our top five to get our score down though. Over the next few weeks, I think we will see our scorers develop. As much as people think of cross country as an individual sport, teammates make the individuals better. I'm looking forward to racing at Vassar next week. I'm sure that we will see some great progress."
SUNY ESF won the men's six-kilometer course with 42 points, followed in second place by Daemen with 59 points who edged Le Moyne by one point to put the Dolphins in third place overall.
In his second year to run, Bartolotta finished second with a time of 21:00.7, followed by Berg coming in at 21:07.5. Sophomore
Jack Gibson (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) finished eighth with a time of 21:37.2, while senior
Max Serling (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) placed 17th at 22:09.6. Sophomore
Evan Breitbeck (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) placed 32nd with a time of 23:03.7.
For the women, Daemen University took the win for the four-kilometer course with 17 points, SUNY-ESF coming in with 73 points in second and the Dolphins scoring 86 for third place overall.
Cortez started off this season finishing eighth with a time of 16:16.9. Sophomore
Hilda Kiprono (Eldoret, Kenya/Kapsabet Girls High School) came in at 17th with a time of 17:13.5 followed by redshirt sophomore
Sophia Bisognano (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) coming in 18th place with a time of 17:18.2. Sophomore
Anita Jepchirchir (Eldoret, Kenya) placed 24th with a time of 17:46.8 and senior
Cleo Baker (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) finished 29th at 18:29.3.
The Dolphins will be traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the Ron Stonitsch Invitational at Vassar Farm on Saturday, September 10
th with a start time at 10:00 AM.
