Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College Intercollegiate Athletics Department prides itself in preparing student-athletes for life after college.
The Dolphins' Athletics Department will take another step to support those actions by offering a new opportunity for student-athletes to ready themselves for the next chapter in their lives.
Collaborating with several agencies across the Le Moyne campus, the Athletics Department will co-sponsor "All 'Phins: A Leadership Symposium" on Monday, Jan. 16.
The Leadership Symposium, the first of its kind at Le Moyne, is open to all students and will feature a series of panels aimed at providing meaningful sessions that begin to meet the needs of student leaders through three theme tracks: Career Enhancement and Readiness; Wellness, Mindfulness and Stress Management and Leadership.
The program will include a keynote speech by Michael Sgro '98, centered on Emotional Intelligence and Leadership. A successful business owner, certified coach, advocate, college success expert and empathic leader, Sgro mentors professionals around the country to improve their overall effectiveness, leadership skills, career readiness, digital savvy, amongst other things.
Additional panels include a Career Session, led my Meredith Tornabene, Le Moyne's Director of Career Services; and a presentation on Wellness focused on mental health and dealing with anxiety, led by Shannon Hefti, who currently serves as the Assistant Director for Health Education and Outreach at Syracuse University.
Sgro will also lead a discussion on Networking and "Adulting 101," while a Young Alumni panel featuring recent Le Moyne graduates discussing their experiences and providing advice for "life after Le Moyne" rounds out the agenda.
A reception and dinner for all attendees will follow.
"We continue to explore methods to provide value to our student-athletes in a variety of ways, both in their competitive arenas and outside their chosen sport," said Le Moyne Director of Athletics & Recreation Bob Beretta. "We are so excited to partner with our colleagues across campus to offer this amazing new opportunity as part of our The Le Moyne Way programming to help prepare our student-athletes for the next steps of their life's journey once they leave 'The Heights.'
"It's very fitting and intentional that we hold the inaugural "All 'Phins: A Leadership Symposium" on the day our country honors the memory of the great Dr. Martin Luther King."
The interactive agenda will provide students opportunities for new connections as they continue to enhance their role as leaders on campus. The goal is to provide tools for career preparedness, campus connections, self-care strategies and a means by which to better understand and serve others.
The first "All 'Phins: A Leadership Symposium" will be held at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Syracuse. Interested students can register to participate in the Symposium at:
