HOWARD CLAIMS CONFERENCE WIN OVER MEN'S SOCCER

Washington, D.C. – The Le Moyne College men's soccer suffered a 2-0 setback at Howard University in Northeast Conference action on Sunday at Howard's Greene Stadium.

Le Moyne outshot the Bison by a tally of 9-6, including a 6-3 advantage in the first half, but Howard took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when junior forward Bryson Baker stepped up to a loose ball in the penalty area and drove a left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the goal. The goal was Baker's fourth of the season.

The Bison doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when graduate midfielder Roy Henderson sent the ball in the air across the Le Moyne penalty area to sophomore forward Christian Rufael who placed a shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

Le Moyne took four corner kicks during the final 45 minutes, compared to two for Howard.

"Really disappointed with the result. It just wasn't our day today and we must be better for our final two games," said Le Moyne head coach Callum Donnelly '17, M '21. "We now have a week off which is important to get some healthy legs back as we've had a difficult stretch of games. We will hopefully get some important players back for next week's game."

The Dolphins will return to action on October 29 with a conference match at LIU. After that, Le Moyne will play its regular season finale on November 2 at home against Sacred Heart.

The Dolphins created a promising chance early in the game when junior forward Michael Sparkes, who made his first start of the season on Sunday, sent a pass into the path of graduate midfielder Luca Nicastro, who got past a Howard defender and dribbled into the left side of the penalty area before poking a right-footed shot towards the right side of the net that was saved by senior goalkeeper Benjamin Hoeslii.

Le Moyne freshman goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell made his first save of the game in the 19th minute on a shot by Baker from inside the penalty area.

Le Moyne redshirt-sophomore midfielder Ziad Abdul-Malak won a corner kick for the 'Phins in the 36th minute, and Nicastro's cross from the left flag found graduate defender Ben Quigley at the far post, but his header bounced wide of the goal frame.

With a little under 13:30 left in the second half, Le Moyne redshirt-sophomore forward Jakob Priestman drew a foul outside the 18-yard box, and the Dolphins put a shot on goal off the free kick, but it was saved by the goalkeeper.

In the 79th minute, Le Moyne freshman forward Felix Ludemann drove a shot towards the goal that was swatted away by a diving Hoeslii.
