Syracuse, N.Y. – Baseball sophomore right fielder/catcher/pitcher
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) has been named the Le Moyne College Athlete of the Week, presented by CADimensions, Inc., for February 27.
Patchett started all four games in right field during Le Moyne's 3-1 weekend at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
During game one of Le Moyne's doubleheader against Saint Thomas Aquinas on Friday, Patchett went 1-1 at the plate with two walks, a hit by pitch, and a run scored.
Game two of the doubleheader, a seven-inning contest, was sent to extra innings after the Spartans tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the seventh. Patchett had already reached base twice during game two before stepping to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out and a runner on second. Patchett ripped a two-strike pitch past the third baseman and into left field, which drove in
Philip Zollo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) from second base and gave the 'Phins a 2-1 walk-off victory.
On Saturday at the Ripken Experience, Le Moyne played one nine-inning contest against Bridgeport and claimed a 4-1 win behind stellar defense, solid pitching performances from
Jacob Maser (Chittenango, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) and
Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute), plus home runs from
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and
Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell).
Patchett went 1-2 at the plate against the Purple Knights with a run scored, a walk and a hit by pitch, marking the third straight game in Myrtle Beach that Patchett reached base at least three times.
Patchett saved his best performance for the last game of the weekend.
During Le Moyne's 15-0 win over Mercy College on Sunday, the 6'3" right-handed hitter launched two home runs over the left field wall (a solo home run to lead off the top of the third inning and a two-run home run in the sixth). Patchett also drew a walk against the Mavericks. Nevins also homered on Sunday, while redshirt-sophomore right-handed pitcher
Jordan Goldmann (Encinitas, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy/Palomar College/Grossmont College) allowed just four hits and zero runs while striking out five batters in 7.0 innings pitched to earn his first win as a Dolphin.
The Le Moyne baseball team (4-4) will be back in action on Saturday, March 4 when they play the first two games of their four-game non-conference series at Shippensburg University (9-4).
