WOMEN’S GOLF PLACES SEVENTH AT GOLDEN KNIGHT CAROLINA CLASSIC TO OPEN SPRING SEASON

West End, N.C. – Sophomore Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tied for fifth place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Golden Knight Carolina Classic on Friday and Saturday at the par-72, 5803-yard Beacon Ridge Golf & Country Club.

Host Gannon University won the team championship with a two-day total of 649 off rounds of 319 and 330 to win by two shots. Emmanuel College placed second with a 651 following rounds of 327 and 324. Ohio Dominican University was third after rounds of 325 and 331 to finish at 656. The Dolphins opened with a 354 to land in a tie for sixth place and then posted a 366 to dip a place with a total of 720. Trinity Ahing from Sandhill CC earned medalist honors with a 152 off rounds of 73 and 79.

Avotins finished in the tie for fifth place with a 36-hole score of 159. She opened the event with a 78 to land in fourth place. She followed with an 81 on Saturday to finish in the fifth-place tie.

Freshman Thais Forbes (Atlanta, Ga./Coral Gables (Fla.)) finished in a four-way tie for 15th place with a total of 166. She recorded an 82 in the first round to place 17th and then moved up two places with an 84 in the second round.

Freshman Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) placed 47th with a 185 off rounds of 88 and 97. Senior Elyse Maniccia (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) finished with a 210 after rounds of 106 and 104 to place 60th, while graduate student Meghan McKeen (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) was one spot back following scores of 106 and 105.

The Dolphins are back in action at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Catholic University on March 24 at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, Maryland.
