Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted St. Bonaventure at Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool on Saturday afternoon. The men's squad fell by a score of 164-78 while the women's team came away with a 152-85 loss.
"I am very happy with the results today from many of our swimmers and divers. When a team comes in and has to set pool records just to beat you, you know you're on the right track," said head coach Adam Zaczkowski '04. "Compared to last year's meet, we were faster, stronger and flat out more competitive.
"The women were led by a lifetime best swim by senior Brenna Horan (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point / SUNY Geneseo) in the women's 1000. She is becoming the leader in our distance groups. Sophomore Kayleigh Bigwarfe (Glenmont, N.Y. / Bethlehem) had a great 50 Free split in the Women's 200 Medley Relay of 24.3 which she hasn't been near for 18 months. Also in the women's Medley, sophomore Zoe Coburn (Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephens) was as fast as she's ever been at this point of the season with her lead off 50 back."
"Our women's IM took some great leaps forward with the trio of freshman Kim Velazquez (Fairfield, C.T. / Fairfield Warde), sophomore Madeleine O'Dea (Milton, O.N. / Milton District), and junior Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland)."
"For women's diving, freshman Gabby Williams (Scotia, N.Y. / Scotia-Glenville) swept the 1m and 3m diving. She's making great strides."
"On the Men's side, freshman Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) set a pool record in the 100 yard Breaststroke. Freshman Michael White Jr. (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) (200 Free) and freshman Alexander Pilieci (Ottawa, O.N. / John McCrae) (100Fly) both swam season best times.
"I was also impressed by senior captain Belal Aly (Syracuse, N.Y. / PSLA @ Fowler). He had a tough meet at Colgate last week, but bounced back and had good freestyle times."
"The 1m score from junior Patrick Scott (Utica, N.Y. / New Hartford / Niagara) should place him near the top of the NEC."
