Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne women's lacrosse team hopes to extend its current winning streak to three when Wagner College comes to town on Saturday afternoon. This is the second ever meeting between the two. Le Moyne thrashed Wagner 12-1 in 2010.
Â
Wagner struggled to start the season but has turned things around in the NEC. The Seahawks have a positive record in conference, with wins over FDU, Howard, Central Connecticut State and Merrimack. They've been strong on the road, winning three of their four NEC matchups away from home. Wagner is averaging over 13 goals per game in conference contests.
Â
Outside of NEC play, the Seahawks are winless. Wagner went 0-5 against non-conference opponents in 2024. Those losses came against Drexel, Lafayette, Hofstra, Delaware and Columbia. The Seahawks fell by an average of over ten goals during those games. Wagner scored more in its first two NEC matchups than it did in all five of its non-conference contests.
Â
Senior midfielder Kelsey Scheidel leads Wagner in goals and points. Scheidel has found the back of the net 27 times and tallied 36 points in 2024. She's scored in all but one contest this season and recorded a hat-trick or better in four games. Scheidel had a season-high six goals in a win over Howard on March 30. She also ranks first on the Seahawks in ground balls (28), is second in caused turnovers (13) and third in draw controls (22).
Â
Graduate attacker Megan Greco has been strong as well. She has 21 goals and has scored at least two in five consecutive contests. Overall, Greco has a goal in nine straight games. She's converted nearly 68% of her shots on net. Greco had two goals and an assist in Wagner's most recent contest against FDU on April 10.
Â
Junior midfielder Ella Marino tops the Seahawks in assists. She's dished out 14 this season and added 12 goals on the side. Marino leads Wagner in free-position scores as well and has picked up 15 ground balls. She has eight assists in her last four matchups.
Â
Wagner has two more games this season following its clash with Le Moyne. The Seahawks play Sacred Heart and Delaware State in the next two weeks.
Â
Le Moyne clinched an NEC Tournament appearance during its 17-5 demolition over Central Connecticut State. It was the Dolphins fourth time scoring 10 or more goals in a contest. Le Moyne scored eight consecutive goals between the second and fourth quarter. The game was the Dolphins' biggest win of their new Division I era.
Â
Six different Le Moyne players scored multiple goals against CCSU. Seniors
Rhonee Shea Pal and
Reilly Geer each recorded a hat-trick. Geer also had three assists and was one of two Dolphin with six points. Attacker
Sarah Hutchings was the other player to reach the mark as she notched two goals and led Le Moyne with four assists in the win.
Â
Fifth year goalie
Paige Crandall was strong in the victory. She allowed just four goals and had as many saves. Crandall has allowed under five goals in back-to-back games for the first time this season. On the year, she has a 45.5% save percentage and is 7-6.
Â
Le Moyne's matchup with Wagner is its final home game of 2024. The Dolphins head on the road for a non-conference matchup with Vermont on Wednesday, April 17. Le Moyne then goes to Howard for its final NEC contest on April 20. The Dolphins end the regular season against the University at Albany on April 23.
Prior to the opening draw with the Seahawks, the Dolphins' senior class will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
