Liverpool, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team will play its final regular season matches this weekend against non-conference opponents Lafayette College and St. Bonaventure University. The Dolphins will take on Lafayette Saturday at 7:00 p.m., then they will meet the Bonnies on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Elevate Fitness courts in Liverpool.
The Dolphins faced off against both teams during their first season at the Division I level in 2023-24. Le Moyne lost a close match at Lafayette by a score of 4-3, with
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) both recording a singles win. St. Bonaventure recorded a 7-0 win over the Dolphins last season in Olean.
Le Moyne most recently dropped a home conference match against LIU on April 5 by a score of 4-1. The duo of
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) claimed a 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles against the Sharks, while graduate student
Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) registered Le Moyne's only point of the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win in No. 1 singles.
Mahbouli's first No. 1 singles win of the season earned her NEC Prime Performer honors on Thursday.
The Dolphins went 4-4 in conference matches during the regular season and will complete in the Northeast Conference Championships next week in West Windsor, N.J.
Le Moyne senior
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta), who was been named to multiple all-conference teams during her time on the Heights, is currently 8-5 in dual match singles competition this season, including 6-1 against NEC opponents.
Barona and her doubles partner Casares are 8-4 in dual matches, including 3-3 in conference action.
Sophomore
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) has also captured eight dual match singles victories this season. Alvarez has won seven singles matches in dual competition. Alvarez and Fernando have both won four conference singles matches.
Fernando and Mahbouli are currently 5-3 in first position doubles conference matches for the 'Phins.
Lafayette will enter Saturday's match with a 6-7 record, including 1-2 against Patriot League competition, while St. Bonaventure currently holds a 4-14 record, including 0-4 against Atlantic 10 foes.
