WOMEN’S GOLF IN EIGHTH PLACE AFTER SECOND ROUND OF NORTHEAST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Williamsburg, Va. – Sophomore Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) is tied for sixth place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to eighth place through two rounds of the Northeast Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at the par-72, 6083-yard Plantation Course at Kingsmill Resort.

Howard University, the preseason favorite, is in first place through 36 holes with a total of 617 following rounds of 310 and 307. FDU is in second place at 621 off scores of 312 and 309. Saint Francis University is third with a 646 after rounds of 326 and 320. The Dolphins are in eighth place at 662 following scores of 328 (the fifth-best score of the round) and 334. Howard's Paris Fieldings (74-76) and FDU's Apichaya Chirakunakorn (77-73) are tied for first on the individual chart at 150.

Cafarella is in a four-way tie for sixth in the field of 56 with a two-round total of 158, which includes three birdies and 19 pars. She opened with a 76, which featured two birdies and 10 pars. She then carded an 82, which included one birdie and nine pars.

Senior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) is in 21st place with a total of 163, which features five birdies and 12 pars. She recorded one birdie and nine pars en route to an 83 in the first round. She then had four birdies and three pars in the second round as she finished at 80.

Freshmen Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) and Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) are part of a five-way tie for 34th place at 171. Williams had two birdies and five pars as she played to an 84 in the first round and then posted one birdie and eight pars en route to an 87. Dahn had an 86 in the first round, which featured seven pars, and an 85 in the afternoon, which included seven more pars.

Junior Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) is in a three-way tie for 42nd place at 174, which featured one birdie and 12 pars. She tallied an 85 in the first round, including one birdie and six pars. She then had six pars as part an 89 in the afternoon.

The Dolphins get underway in the final round of the Championship on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
