Perry, N.Y. – Le Moyne College graduate student short-stick defensive midfielder
Dom DelPonte (Upper Saddle, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America team, as announced by the association on Wednesday afternoon. The Dolphins as a team earned the USILA Team Academic Award.
DelPonte is one of 120 students (from 45 institutions) to earn USILA Scholar All-America honors and one of just six student-athletes from the Northeast Conference to be recognized (along with three student-athletes from Cleveland State University and one each from Robert Morris University and the University of Detroit Mercy).
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Please note that simply being a member of the North/South team and/or being All League/Conference does not make the Student-Athlete a lock for the award. Each Individual will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Scholar AA committee.
DelPonte was honored after being named to the USILA Division I/II Senior All-Star Game in late May. As a starter in all 15 games in his final season as a Dolphin, he recorded 12 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. He had at least one ground ball in 10 games, including a pair with two, and eight games with a caused turnover, including a career-best three in the 8-7 victory over Robert Morris in the regular season finale to clinch the Dolphins the top seed in the NEC Championship.
DelPonte, who was an NE10 All-Conference Third Team selection as a redshirt sophomore in 2023, finished his career as a Dolphin with 42 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers over 47 games played, which included starts in each of the last 44 games. His 25 caused turnovers are tied for the fifth-most by a short-stick defensive midfielder in the program's career rankings.
The USILA Team Academic Award is earned by teams who achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year. The Dolphins compiled a GPA of 3.295 over the Fall and Spring semesters. Le Moyne is one of 44 Division I programs to receive the award and one of five from the NEC (and the only full conference member).
The Dolphins finished their second year at the Division I level and first in the NEC with a 9-6 overall record and a 6-1 mark in league play, which earned the program a share of the regular season conference championship and the top seed in the league tournament.
