Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College head men's basketball coach Nate Champion '14 has added Serge Clement as an assistant coach.

Clement joins the staff with more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience, marked by program-building, defensive excellence, and elite player development at the Division I level.

Clement arrives at Le Moyne following a highly successful tenure at George Mason University, where he served as an assistant coach and the team's defensive coordinator. During the 2024–25 season, he played a pivotal role in transforming the Patriots into one of the nation's premier defensive teams. Under his leadership, George Mason ranked third nationally in field goal percentage defense and finished in the top 25 in overall team defense among Division I programs.

He helped guide the Patriots to their most successful season in Atlantic 10 history, which included a share of their first-ever A-10 regular season title, a program-record 27 overall wins, and a new school record of 15 conference victories. The team also earned its first NIT win since 2004, reached its first conference championship game since 2009, and recorded a program-best 18 home victories—highlighted by a perfect 9–0 mark in A-10 play. Under Clement's defensive leadership, senior Jared Billups was named George Mason's first conference Defensive Player of the Year since 2001 and was a finalist for the Lefty Driesell Award, recognizing the nation's top defensive player.

Prior to his impactful stint at George Mason, Clement was a key architect of success at Hofstra University, where he spent three seasons as an assistant coach. He helped lead the Pride to three consecutive 20-plus win seasons, including a 2023 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) regular season championship. The 2022–23 campaign featured 25 victories and an NIT second-round appearance following a first-round win at Rutgers. Under his tenure, Hofstra notched marquee wins over nationally ranked opponents, including #24 Arkansas in 2021–22 and #18 Charleston in 2022–23. Clement was instrumental in the development of six all-conference players at Hofstra, including two-time CAA Player of the Year Aaron Estrada, 2024 CAA Player of the Year Tyler Thomas, CAA Sixth Man of the Year Zach Cooks, and CAA All-Defensive Team honoree Jaquan Carlos.

Clement's coaching career also includes impactful stops at Marist College and Saint Peter's University. At Marist, he contributed to the program's first winning season in 13 years and its best conference finish in 14 seasons. He was named one of the MAAC's Top 5 Assistant Coaches by Jeff Goodman in 2020. During his three seasons at Saint Peter's, the Peacocks won the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and tied for the second-most wins in program history with 23 victories during the 2016–17 season. Clement recruited and developed several all-conference players at both programs, including Ricardo Wright (Marist) and Davauhnte Turner and Sam Idowu (Saint Peter's).

Widely recognized for his coaching acumen, Clement was named to Silver Waves Media's "Rising Stars: Impactful Men's Mid-Major Assistants" list for four consecutive years (2021–2024). He is also a four-time Top Connect honoree.

Beyond the collegiate season, Clement further expanded his national recruiting network and continued mentoring emerging talent by serving as an assistant coach for the prestigious Florida Rebels AAU program on the Nike EYBL circuit during the summer of 2025.

In addition to his coaching career, Clement has served as an adjunct faculty member, capstone advisor, and guest speaker for the Georgetown University Sports Industry Management graduate program since 2021.

A New York native, Clement earned his bachelor's degree in business economics from SUNY Potsdam in 2009, where he also played collegiately. He holds a master's degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland, earned in 2011.
