Box Score 3 Binghamton, N.Y. – Junior
Emmanuel Cottle (Toronto, Ontario/Ontario Virtual School/Alcorn State) recorded four victories to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team at the Carousel Classic hosted by Binghamton University Friday through Sunday at Recreation Park.
Cottle earned three wins in singles action and one win during doubles play. He opened the event with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Niagara's Damian Janiszewski in his Dolphin debut. On Saturday, he tallied a 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 12-10 victory over Ronin Lotlikar of Binghamton. He capped the weekend with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Colgate's Lochlan Seth.
Cottle teamed with freshman
Carlo Zucchini (Varese, Italy/European School of Varese) in the first round of doubles on Friday and they defeated Colgate's Jerome Falcon and Parker McGowan, 7-6 (7-2). In the second round of competition on Friday, he and sophomore
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) fell to Janiszewski and Aryav Bhawan of Niagara, 6-3. Cottle and sophomore
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) fell to Lotlikar and James McPherson of Binghamton, 6-2, on Saturday.
Freshman
Gabriel Segubiense (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) also went 3-0 in singles action to go with a doubles win. He began his collegiate career with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Sarosh Rustemjee of Niagara on Friday. He was then a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 winner on Saturday over Binghamton's Harry Liao. He closed out the invitational by rallying for a 2-6, 6-3, 12-10 win over Parker McGowan of Colgate on Sunday.
Segubiense and Hoyland defeated Colgate's Seth and Witt Bulger, 6-4, on Friday. He and sophomore
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) were edged by Binghamton's Lotlikar and McPherson, 7-5, on Saturday.
Sophomore
Navya Verma (Patiala, India/Apollo Public School) was also victorious in all three of his singles matches. He opened the year with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 win over Niagara's Logan Wong. He then recorded back-to-back scores of 6-1 to defeated Andrew Fang of Binghamton on Saturday. He completed the weekend with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 victory on Sunday over Colgate's Adam Fink.
Verma fell in a pair of doubles matches with Junior
Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy). They fell to Colgate's John Fazli and Aidan Lee on Friday, 6-0. On Saturday, they were edged by Binghamton's Andre Ajed and Ioannis Sakkas, 7-6 (7-4).
Hoyland went 2-1 in singles action. He turned in a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win on Friday over Bhawan of Niagara. He then defeated McPherson of Binghamton, 6-2, 7-5, on Saturday. He suffered the loss on Sunday to Aidan Chung of Colgate, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-5.
Zucchini finished his first collegiate event with four wins, including three in doubles action. In his first singles match, he fell to Niagara's Jose Garcia, 6-3, 2-6, 11-9. He earned his first individual win, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, on Saturday over Binghamton's Ajed. He fell to Bulger of Colgate, 6-3, 6-4, on Sunday.
Following his win with Cottle on Friday, Zucchini teamed with Bortolaso for a 6-3 win over Niagara's Garcia and Wong. He and Matthew tallied a 6-4 victory on Saturday over Binghamton's Fang and Liao.
Bortolaso added a singles victory to his two doubles wins. He was a 6-4, 6-2 winner on Friday over Niagara's Ekansh Shukla. He fell to Binghamton's Sakkas on Saturday, 6-4, 7-5.
Bortolaso's first doubles win came with Matthew on Friday morning over Colgate's Chung and Tim Vargas, 6-1.
In his only singles match of the weekend, Matthew fell to Vargas of Colgate on Sunday, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Boyev earned an 8-2 win over Niagara's Wesley Nichols on Sunday.
