Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) has been named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
McPheron was a standout factor in the 'Phins 1-1 week which included the first win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Saint Peter's.
The Dolphins opened the week with a 2-0 loss against St. Bonaventure. Despite the loss, Mikayla made eight saves on 17 shots faced, marking a .800 save percentage. She continued to make an impact against Saint Peter's, making six saves on 14 shots for a .857 save percentage.
McPheron has made 40 saves through six games, and maintaining a .755 save percentage. She was also named an NEC Prime Performer, alongside sophomore defender
Giana Cutuli (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico). Cutuli recorded two assists for both goals against Saint Peter's as the 'Phins went on to win 2-1.
