Le Moyne's Walrath Named Player and Freshman of the Year; Saint Michael's Burns Earns Sportsmanship Award; Bryant's Cilli Selected Coach of the Year
South Easton, Mass. - Freshman Tirzah Walrath (Cortland, N.Y / Cortland) of Le Moyne College has been named the 2007 Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Vern Cox Player of the Year as well as being selected Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year. Walrath wrapped up the season with a perfect 16-0 overall record at number one singles. She also earned All Conference First-Team Singles honors.
Cailie Burn's of Saint Michael's College was selected the F. Paul Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award. Burns was also selected All Conference Second-Team Singles and Doubles.
Bryant University's Barbara Cilli was named the 2007 Women's Tennis Coach of the Year, as selected by a vote by the 12 Northeast-10 coaches. Cilli led the Bulldogs to a 13-5 overall record (11-1 NE-10) and a share of the Northeast-10 Regular Season title.
Joining Walrath on First-Team Singles is Bentley's Marcia Gilbride, Rachel Harbert and Kelly Nugent, Bryant's Annette Jervasi and Saint Michael's Catherine Dalton.
All Conference Second-Team Singles include Bryant's Heather Fedesco, Pace University's Natalija Subotic, Saint Anselm College's Laura Nason, Saint Michael's Burns and Liz Clemente and Stonehill College's Allison Bleakney.
Named to the All Conference Third-Team Singles were Assumption's Shannon Steele, Bryant's Sacha Solomon, Saint Michael's Lindsay Horne, Southern New Hampshire University's Melissa Ramos and Stonehill's Samantha Dircks and Lauren Rowinski.
The Northeast-10 All Conference First-Team Doubles was comprised of Bentley's Kelly Fleszar, Gilbride, Harbert and Nugent along with Bryant's Solomon and Jervasi.
All Conference Second-Team Doubles included Bryant's Michelle Burke and Lauren Mullen, Saint Michael's Burns and Michelle Wood and Southern New Hampshire's Amanda Nason and Ramos.
Third-Team Doubles included Bryant's Fedesco and Kristen Swanson, Saint Anselm's Lauren Koloski and Nason as well as Stonehill's Elise Clark and Rowinski.
The Vern Cox Player of the Year Award is named in honor of the former longtime Springfield College head coach Vern Cox, while the Bogan Mermorial Sportsmanship Award is named in honor of the late F. Paul Bogan, Commissioner of the Northeast-10 from 1995-1997.
