MSOC: DOLPHINS FALL IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION AT DOMINICAN 1-0

Orangeburg, N.Y. – Sony Narro scored in the 68th minute to give Dominican College a 1-0 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at DC Soccer Field.

In the opening half of the game, Dominican controlled play but was unable to get on the scoreboard. The Chargers out-shot the Dolphins 12-1 in the first half, forcing freshman goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) to make six saves to keep the game scoreless.

After each team took three shots over the first half the second stanza, including two Le Moyne shots that needed to be saved by Dominican goalkeeper Brandon Heembrock, the Chargers found the back of the net. Following a blocked shot by Pedro DeAraujo, John Langdon sent the ball to Narro, who deposited it into the goal at the 67:49 mark.

The Dolphins increased their pressure over the final 19 minutes, out-shooting Dominican 5-1, but were unable to tie the score. Heembrock made a pair of saves on shots by senior back Sean Lawlor (Kirkham, Preston/Baines School) and junior midfielder Jesse Carr">Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) in a three-minute span to preserve the shutout. Le Moyne's final shot with 45 seconds remaining went wide and the Chargers were able to run the clock out.

Silva, the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week each of the last three weeks, made eight saves in the setback. Heembrock finished with four second-half saves to record his seventh shutout of the season and his fifth straight. Dominican finished the game with a 17-9 advantage in shots, while holding a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (7-4-3), which lost to Dominican for the first time since 2005 (2-0-2), returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Stonehill at 11:00 a.m.
