SWIM: LE MOYNE MEN AND WOMEN SWEPT AT HOME BY ITHACA

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior Sarah Salanger (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and sophomore Scott Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) each won two events, but the Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Ithaca on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. The Ithaca women won 172-71, while the men topped the Dolphins 150.5-83.5.

Salanger picked up two of the Le Moyne women's three victories. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.61, her second straight win in the event. Salanger capped her day by winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:28.83, an improvement of 1.4 seconds over last week's winning time. Junior Katie O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem), the reigning Northeast-10 women's swimming athlete of the week, recorded the third win on the afternoon for the Dolphins. She posted a time of 59.99 seconds to top the field in the 100-yard backstroke, the fourth different event she has won this year.

On the men's side, Thieke registered two of Le Moyne's four individual wins. He touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:04.30. Later in the meet, Thieke won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:11.05. Freshman Connor Agen (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) won the meet's first individual event, the 1,000-yard freestyle, for the second straight week with a time of 10:51.80. Junior Drew Acquaviva (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem), the reigning men's swimming athlete of the week in the conference, tallied Le Moyne's fourth win by touching the wall in 53.79 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, an improvement of 0.23 seconds from last week's time. To open the meet, Acquaviva teamed with junior Joe Taylor (Essex Fells, N.J./Essex Fells), senior Sean Hosford (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and freshman Tyler Olson (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.18, just under four seconds faster than last week's win against Utica.

Le Moyne travels to SUNY Cortland on October 30 at 1:00 p.m. for its first road meet of the season.
