Briarcliff, N.Y. – Senior Tirzah Walrath (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) cruised to a singles victory and combined on a doubles victory to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team to an 8-1 win at Pace on Friday afternoon.
Walrath was perfect a first singles in easily defeating Joana Augustine by scores of 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, Walrath teamed with classmate Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) to down Augustine and Kaylee Andersen by a score of 8-2 at first doubles. Andersen earned Pace's only point with a 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 10-6 win over Cohen at second singles.
Sophomore Caroline Tisdell (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Yomara Lopez in third singles, while senior Marielle Artessa (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) topped Carla Gross 6-4, 6-0 at fourth singles. The duo of Tisdell and Artessa was victorious at second doubles by posting an 8-2 score against Danielle Sidoti and Danielle Gore.
Freshman Rebecca Black (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) beat Gore by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles, while sophomore Elizabeth Rhode (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) posted back-to-back scores of 6-2 over Ashley Wnuk at sixth singles. Black and junior Megan Andolina (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) combined for an 8-2 win in third doubles over Wnuk and Gross.
Le Moyne (5-5, NE-10 5-3), which has won three straight matches, returns to action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire at 10:00 a.m.
