Box Score Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with American International in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
In the opening half of play, the Yellow Jackets registered a 7-6 edge in shots over the Dolphins, while each team had one corner kick. Le Moyne had the two best scoring chances of the half. Senior Justin Fredsell (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford/UBuffalo) had a shot from three yards on the left side of the goal at the 17:20 mark, but AIC goalkeeper James Taber turned the shot away. With 3:01 remaining in the half, the Dolphins were awarded a penalty kick after Fredsell was tripped just inside the left edge of the penalty box. However, Taber made a diving save on senior Zach Kuzemka's (Chenango Forks, N.Y./Chenango Forks/Fairfield) shot towards the lower right corner.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets turned up the offensive pressure on the Dolphins and registered 14 shots to Le Moyne's five. AIC's best scoring chance came in the 77th minute as Emile Barnett was charging towards the goal, but freshman goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) came out of the goal and made a sliding save to keep the score tied at zero.
With two minutes remaining in the first overtime period, junior back Bryce Martin (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) had a shot from 35 yards hit off the crossbar. Freshman Michael Spadine (Owego, N.Y./Owego) tried heading the rebound into the back of the net, but Taber made the save two yards from the goal line.
Neither team threatened to score in the second overtime en route to the scoreless draw.
Silva made four saves in 84 minutes of action between the pipes, while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Zac Haenlin">Zac Haenlin (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) was not required to make a save over the final 26 minutes of action. Taber turned away seven shots in posting the shutout.
Le Moyne (1-1-2, NE-10 0-0-1), which fell out of the latest NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National Rankings, returns to action on Saturday at Saint Anselm at 11:00 a.m.
