SPADINE LIFTS DOLPHINS TO 1-0 DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Springfield, Mass. – Sophomore forward Michael Spadine (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) scored in the closing minutes of the second overtime period to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 1-0 double-overtime win over American International in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at Abdow Field.

The teams went back-and-forth from the opening whistle and each recorded double-digit shots in the opening half. The Yellow Jackets took 11 shots in the stanza with sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) making three saves for the Dolphins, while Le Moyne took 10 shots and forced AIC goalkeeper Jason Ryan to make five saves.

Just over two and one-half minutes into the second half, AIC's Conor Doyle had a chance to get the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard, but Silva pushed the ball out-of-bounds. The Yellow Jackets kept up the pressure with five more shots over the next 10 minutes, but could not convert.

The Dolphins countered with three shots in a span of 84 seconds. After senior midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) had a shot blocked by an AIC defender, freshman Cal Filtch">Cal Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) sent a shot towards the goal, but Ryan turned it away.

The Yellow Jackets had their best chance to score with just under 13 minutes remaining in the second half, but Silva made a pair of saves in a span of three seconds.

American International finished the second half with 12 shots, forcing Silva to make six saves, including his sixth with just 34 seconds remaining, while the Dolphins took nine shots, six of which were saved by Ryan.

Spadine almost ended the game with 46 seconds left in the first overtime period, but Ryan was able to stop the shot. He had another opportunity two minutes into the second overtime, but his shot hit the post.

With just under two minutes remaining in the game, Spadine collected the ball off an AIC turnover and slid the ball into the back of the net on a breakaway for his third goal of the year at the 108:10 mark.

Silva made a season-high eight saves between the pipes in registering his third shutout of the year, while Ryan finished the contest with 12 saves. AIC held a 26-24 advantage in shots, while Le Moyne had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (2-2-1, 1-0 NE-10), which improved to 13-0-2 all-time against the Yellow Jackets, returns to the field on Saturday against Saint Anselm at 1:00 p.m.
