MEN'S SOCCER KNOCKS OFF SAINT ROSE, 2-1, FOR 10TH WIN OF THE SEASON

Box Score

Albany, N.Y. – Junior back Trevor Creedon (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) headed in a corner kick early in the second half to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 2-1 win over The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sullivan Field.

With the victory, Le Moyne closes its deficit to 3-2 in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with a goal just over 13 minutes into the game. Junior back Michael Kuss (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Herkimer C.C.) sent a cross from the right side of the field to senior forward Michael Spadine (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy), who drilled a shot from the left side into the top of the goal for his fourth tally in seven games this season. With the goal, Spadine picked up his 51st career point to become the 15th player in the program's history to register at least 50 career points.

Saint Rose evened the score at one apiece 12 and one-half minutes later. Tyler Casavant fired a shot from the left side that slipped into the net through the goalkeeper's fingers.

Le Moyne regained the lead just one minute and 25 seconds into the second half. Junior back Cal Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) lofted a corner kick into the box, where Creedon jumped into the air in the middle of a pack of players and headed the ball into the left side of the net for his fourth marker of the year. On the play, Filtch earned his sixth assist of the season, tied for the second-most in the conference this year and the most by a Le Moyne defender since Drew Gilbert also recorded six during the 2004 season.

The Golden Knights had a chance to tie the score at the 68:58 mark, but senior goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) turned away a shot by Jeff Kozlowski.

Silva recorded two saves in the contest to earn his 10th win of the season and the 35th of his career, which is tied with Tim Mann '05 for the third-most in the program's history. Colan Balkwell suffered the loss for the Golden Knights despite making eight saves. The Dolphins registered a 16-7 advantage in shots, while Saint Rose posted an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (10-6, 7-5 NE-10), which closes out the regular season on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against Stonehill College, will honor its senior class of Spadine, Silva, midfielder Perry Clark (Severn, Md./Old Mill), back Samuel Carroll">Samuel Carroll (Jamesville, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) and student assistant Michael Martin (Easthampton, Mass./Easthampton/Piedmont College) prior to the contest.
