Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman Ethan Gunty (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) found the back of the net with 13 minutes left in the first half as the Le Moyne College men's soccer team recorded a 1-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
Gunty tallied his second goal of the season at the 32:00 mark for the game's only scoring. After senior forward Emmanuel Chanelo (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) carried the ball towards the top of the penalty box, he sent a pass into the box to Gunty, who one-timed a shot from 12 yards out on the right side into the lower left corner of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Matthew Silva">Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) stopped the only shot he faced to record his second straight shutout and his sixth in seven wins this season. The win moves Silva into fourth place on the program's all-time wins chart with 32, while the shutout pulls him within one of Steve White's program record of 25 set in 2009. Jason Smith recorded six saves in the setback for the Chargers. Le Moyne registered a 19-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (7-3, 5-2 NE-10), which improved to 6-2 at home this season, starts a span of five road games in six contests on Saturday at Merrimack College at 6:00 p.m.
