Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Zachary MacNabb (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/UNC Pembroke) scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
Le Moyne opened the game's scoring just under nine and one-half minutes into the contest. Following a Saint Anselm foul near the right sideline, junior back Cal Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) sent the free kick from 45 yards out towards the left post, where junior back Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England/Solihull Sixth Form College/Felician) headed the ball into the right side of the net for his third goal of the campaign.
The Dolphins doubled their lead 12 and one-half minutes later. Freshman forward Ethan Gunty (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) sent a crossing pass from the right side into the middle of the field, where junior midfielder Alexander Lautner (Munich, Germany/Theodolinden Gymnasium) redirected the ball to MacNabb, who tallied his first goal of the year from the left post.
After a scoreless span of 28 minutes, Le Moyne scored four times over a stretch of 16:17. The Dolphins started the run at the 60:12 mark as MacNabb scored into the lower right corner of the goal from seven yards out on the left side after taking a pass from Lautner at the top of the penalty box.
Just under seven minutes later, MacNabb sent a pass into the penalty box to senior forward Emmanuel Chanelo (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran), who slid a shot through the goalkeeper's legs for his third goal of the season. Chanelo added his fourth goal of the year 1:53 later as he collected a pass from the left corner from sophomore midfielder/back Mark Gentile (Walworth, N.Y./Wayne) and fired a shot from 12 yards out into the lower right corner.
The Dolphins completed the game's scoring with 13:31 left as freshman forward Liam Roohan (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) found the back of the net with a sliding shot from nine yards out after taking a pass from the left side from junior midfielder Taylor Spear (Peru, N.Y./Peru).
Senior goalkeeper Matthew Silva">Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) recorded his career-best fourth straight shutout by stopping the only shot he faced to earn the win. Silva has held the opposition scoreless over the last 364:39. Mark Kotsopoulos took the loss for the Hawks after yielding two goals in 24:21 in between the pipes, while making two saves. Le Moyne registered a 13-6 advantage in shots, including 9-2 in the second half, while holding a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (4-1, 2-0 NE-10), which scored its most goals and posted its most lop-sided win since a 7-0 victory over Wilmington on Sept. 3, 2005, returns to action on Tuesday against Adelphi University at 4:00 p.m.
