South Easton, Mass. – Le Moyne College men's soccer freshmen
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) and
Jacob Borssen (Stockholm, Södermanland/Solna Gymnasium) have been named Northeast-10 Conference Select Sport Co-Rookies of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Beaury, honored by the conference for the first time, registered a 0.00 goals against average and three saves to post a pair of shutout victories in Le Moyne's 2-0 week. In his collegiate debut on Thursday, he stopped the only shot he faced to keep the game scoreless in the 40th minute as the Dolphins went on to register a 6-0 victory over Nyack College. He turned away a pair of shots in a 1-0 win over Lock Haven University on Saturday to become the first Dolphin goalkeeper to open the season with back-to-back shutouts since Tim Mann '05 in 2003.
Borssen, also a first-time honoree, recorded six points on three goals in Le Moyne's 2-0 week. On Thursday, he netted his first collegiate goal just 47 seconds into the second half with a blast from 10 yards out. Borssen tallied his second goal of the contest from the left side of the penalty box to give the Dolphins a 5-0 lead over the Warriors with 17:24 remaining. He picked up his first career game-winning goal on Saturday against Lock Haven by recording the game's only goal by firing a shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 12 yards out just over 26 minutes into the game.
Le Moyne (2-0), which has won its first two games for the first time since the 2007 season, continues its season-opening four-game homestand against Daemen College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
