Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) recorded a win at first singles, but the Le Moyne College women's tennis team fell to Colgate University, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Sanford Field House.
The Raiders opened the afternoon by sweeping the three doubles matches. Jennifer Ho and Katie Grant registered an 8-1 win at the top spot over freshman
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) and sophomore
Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic). At the second spot, Kaelin Brittin and Hannah Fleckenstein were 8-2 winners over Vajjiravelu and senior
Dominique Canale (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego/Arcadia), while Kelly Klein and Kirstie Woodbury posted an 8-1 victory at third doubles over juniors
Allison Jones (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) and
Kennedy Langlois (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central).
At first singles, Vajjiravelu opened her match with Ho by taking the first set, 6-2. After dropping the second set, 6-4, she won the match with a 10-2 win in the tie-breaker. Brittin tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles over Benoit-Limosani, while Grant posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Canale at the third spot. At fourth singles, Klein recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Perry, while Fleckenstein topped Jones in the second-closest match of the day, 6-1, 6-4, at fifth singles. Woodbury closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Langlois at sixth singles.
Le Moyne (8-10) returns to action on Friday, March 27 against Roberts Wesleyan College at 6:45 p.m. at the Liverpool Gold's Gym.
