West Chester, Pa. – The Le Moyne College men's golf team turned in an eighth-place finish at West Chester University's Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the par-71, 6564-yard Penn Oaks Golf Club.
West Chester won its event by five strokes with a two-day score of 605 off rounds of 302 and 303. Using back-to-back rounds of 305, Wilmington placed second with a 610. Concordia (310-307) edged Indiana (Pa.) (305-313) by one shot, 617 to 618, for third place. Mercyhurst captured fifth place with a 621 following rounds of 318 and 303. The Dolphins posted a 309 in the first round to land in fifth place, while slipping into eighth place with a 320 on Monday. Wilmington's Joey Russo claimed medalist honors with a two-over par 144 after recording rounds of 73 and 71.
Freshman
Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Dolphins with a 155 off rounds of 75 and 80 to land in a tie for 17th place. Sophomore
John Clare (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) was two shots back in a tie for 26th place following rounds of 79 and 78, while senior
Mitch Hillegas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) tied for 31st place with a 158 after carding scores of 77 and 81. Junior
Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) registered rounds of 78 and 85 to tie for 48th place with a 163, while senior
Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks) tied for 53rd place with a 165 following rounds of 84 and 81.
The Dolphins close out the regular season on Sunday and Monday by hosting the Mike Bello Invitational at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville. The participants will tee off at 9:00 a.m. on both Sunday and Monday. Prior to Monday's round, Hillegas, Molter and classmates
Sam Eno (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and
Dan Edwards (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
