CLARE LEADS MEN’S GOLF TO FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT NAVY FALL CLASSIC

Annapolis, Md. – Junior John Clare (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) finished in second place with a career-best score to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Navy Fall Classic on Sunday and Monday at the par-71, 6578-yard U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.

The Dolphins registered their best score over the last 11 seasons with a 14-over par 582. The Dolphins recorded a 289 on Sunday and then posted a 293 on Monday to remain in fifth place. The 36-hole score eclipses the previous best mark over the last 11 seasons of 585 set at the ECAC Championships on September 23 and 24, 2007.

Princeton University won the team competition with an eight-under par 560. The Tigers registered a four-under par 280 each day to hold the lead after each round. Georgetown University placed second with a one-under par 567 and carding an even-par 284 on Sunday and a one-under par 283 in the second round. Seton Hall University placed third with a 575 off rounds of 286 and 289, while George Mason University finished fourth with a 579 after posting scores of 287 and 292. Following the Dolphins in the standings was Navy (292-291 – 583), Delaware (300-284 – 584) and Saint Joseph's (296-292 – 588). Navy's Griffin Peters claimed medalist honors with a nine-under par 133 off rounds of 70 and 63.

Clare registered the best performance by a Dolphin over the last 11 seasons with a six-under par 136 to place second. He opened the event with a career-best round of four-under par 67 on Sunday to land in a tie for first place. His 67 ties senior Aidan Fuller's (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) score from last October's Northeast Challenge for the best round by a Dolphin over the last 11 campaigns. Clare then tallied a 69 on Monday to become the first Dolphin over the 11 seasons to post a score under 140. Fuller tied for 13th place with a one-over par 143. He carded an even-par 71 on Sunday to tie for 11th place and followed that up with a one-over 72. Sophomore Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) finished in 30th place with a career-best 151 off rounds of 75 and 76, while classmate Daniel Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) carded back-to-back career-best rounds of 76 to tie for 31st place with a career-high 152. Graduate student Dan Edwards (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) rounded out Le Moyne's five competitors with a 161 off rounds of 82 and 79.

Le Moyne returns to action on Friday and Saturday at the Dowling College September Shootout at Tallgrass Golf Club in Shoreham, N.Y. The Dolphins won both events that Dowling hosted at Tallgrass last year.
