Worcester, Mass. – Paige Benoit and Aubrey Lovejoy were double winners to lead Assumption College to a 6-3 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Assumption took a 2-1 lead in the match following the doubles competition. At the top spot, freshman
Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) and sophomore
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) registered a 9-7 victory over Cassie Burbine and Hannah Riley to earn Le Moyne's first point. Benoit and Marie Black recorded an 8-6 win at second doubles over sophomore
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and junior
Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic), while Lovejoy and Cassy Waung posted an 8-6 win at the third spot over senior
Allison Jones (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) and sophomore
Autumn Hogan (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute).
Benoit-Limosani improved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at second singles over Riley. Vajjiravelu recorded her fifth straight win to open the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the third spot over Black.
Benoit picked up her second win of the day with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Perry at the fourth spot, while Lovejoy was a 6-3, 7-6 winner over Hogan at sixth singles. Burbine was victorious at first singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Dun, while Maggie Holland turned in a 7-5, 6-3 win at the fifth spot over Jones.
Le Moyne (5-2, 4-2 NE-10) is back on the courts on Sunday at Saint Anselm College at 11:00 a.m.
