Hamilton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team returned to action for the first time in 40 days, but fell to Colgate University, 7-2, on Thursday afternoon at the Sanford Field House.
The Raiders opened the day by winning two of the three doubles matches. At the second spot, Katie Grant and Kaelin Brittin recorded a 6-2 victory over sophomore
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/ Kendriya Vidyalaya) and senior
Allison Jones (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame). Kelly Klein and Cheyenne Brown were also 6-2 winners at the third position over sophomore
Autumn Hogan (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas institute) and senior
Kennedy Langlois (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central). Le Moyne registered its first point of the day at the top spot as freshman
Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) and sophomore
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/ Collège Saint-Maurice) defeated Lauren Hyland and Jennifer Ho, 7-6, for their fourth straight victory and 12th of the season. The 12 wins are the most by a Le Moyne tandem over the last 11 years.
Colgate registered wins in five of the six singles matches. Hyland edged Dun in the closest match of the afternoon with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory at the top spot, while Grant posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at the third position against Benoit-Limosani. Brittin recorded consecutive scores of 6-0 at the fourth spot against Jones, while Klein tallied back-to-back scores of 6-1 against Hogan at the number five. Nicole Szczech recorded an 8-1 win in a pro set against Langlois at the sixth position. Vajjiravelu registered her third straight win by topping Ho at the second position, 6-2, 6-4.
Le Moyne (9-9) concludes the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday against Oswego State at 3:30 p.m. Prior to the match, Jones and Langlois will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for the contributions to the program.
