Syracuse, N.Y. – Maria Monje and Camille Latoni won in singles action and teamed on a doubles victory to lead Assumption College to a 6-3 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
Assumption took a 2-1 lead through the doubles competition by winning the odd-numbered positions. At the top spot, Cassie Burbine and Hannah Riley registered an 8-3 win over sophomore
Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) and junior
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice). Maria Monje and Camille Latoni were victorious at the third spot, 8-0, over freshmen
Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and
Cameron Aiello (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill). Le Moyne picked up its first point of the match at the second position as junior
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and senior
Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic) defeated Paige Benoit and Kristen Carbone, 8-2.
In singles action, the Greyhounds won each of the bottom four positions to claim the victory in the match. At the third spot, Benoit was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Benoit-Limosani, while Monje topped Perry at the fourth position, 6-0, 6-1. Latoni registered a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fifth position against Driesen, while Carbone defeated Aiello with consecutive scores of 6-3 at the sixth spot.
Both of Le Moyne's singles wins came via a tiebreaker. At the top spot, Dun rallied against Burbine for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. Vajjiravelu also rallied for her win, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5, at the second position against Riley.
Le Moyne (2-5, 2-4 NE-10) is back in action on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. against Saint Anselm College at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
