Garden City, N.Y. – Three players were double winners to lead Adelphi University to a 5-4 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Adelphi took a 2-1 lead in the doubles competition by winning the two matches that were played. At the first spot, Samantha Perri and Rebecca Fakas turned in an 8-3 win over sophomore
Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) and junior
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice). Vanja Savic and Karen Serina won at the second position against junior
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and senior
Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic), 8-2. The Dolphins earned their first point of the day at the third spot as freshmen
Cameron Aiello (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and
Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) won by default due to Adelphi being unable to fill its lineup.
In singles action, Fakas tallied a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the top spot against Dun, while Perri defeated Perry at the fourth position, 6-1, 6-0. Serina topped Benoit-Limosani in the closest match of the day, 6-2, 6-3, at the third position to clinch the match for the Panthers. Vajjiravelu won her team-best fifth straight match, 6-1, 6-0, at the second position against Savic. Aiello registered her first collegiate win, 6-0, 6-1, at the fifth spot against Maria Bruzon Gutierrez. Driesen won by default at the sixth position.
Le Moyne (2-7, 2-6 NE-10) steps out of conference action on Wednesday to take on Colgate University at 4:00 p.m.
