Alfred, N.Y. – Three Dolphins were each part of three victories as the Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Alfred University on Saturday afternoon at Lebohner Pool. The women registered a 173-112 win over the Saxons, while the men posted a 165-125 victory.
The quartet of juniors
Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and
Lindsey Wright (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and sophomores
Emily Nicastro (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and
Julia Marilley (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.03.
Baker added a pair of individual victories. She picked up her first win by recording a time of 29.96 seconds in the 50-yard backstroke. She was then victorious in the 50-yard butterfly in 28.11 seconds.
Wright also added an individual win to her relay victory. She touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.17.
Junior
Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) was also a double winner for the Dolphins. She turned in a time of 26.03 seconds to top the field in the 50-yard freestyle. She then claimed the 100-yard backstroke by almost four seconds with a time of 1:03.58.
Five other Dolphins were also single winners on the afternoon. Freshman
Karen Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned the team's first individual victory of the day by posting a first-place time of 11:34.45 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Classmate
Haley Decker (Vernon, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) followed with a time of 2:05.29 to win the 200-yard freestyle. Junior
Madison Allen (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) was victorious in the 50-yard breaststroke by recording a time of 34.35 seconds. Freshman
Maddie Gallagher (Homer, N.Y./Homer) won the 500-yard freestyle by almost seven seconds by touching the wall in 5:37.93. Junior
Brittney Liddy (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Iona) registered the team's final win of the day by claiming the three-meter diving event with 200.75 points.
On the men's side, juniors
Andy Raiola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) and
Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) each won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory. The duo combined with sophomore
Eric Burdge (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and freshman
Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) to record a first-place time of 1:31.14 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Raiola earned the team's first win of the day by touching the wall in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:28.04. He later won the 50-yard butterfly in 24.65 seconds. May tallied his first win by almost three and one-half seconds with a time of 53.44 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. He also won the 100-yard breaststroke by posting a time of 1:02.61.
Burdge added to his relay win by topping the field in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.15 seconds.
Three other Dolphins also registered wins on the afternoon. Sophomore
Cory Knapp (Weedsport, N .Y./Christian Brothers Academy) won the 50-yard freestyle by 0.19 seconds with a time of 23.02 seconds. Senior
Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) won the 500-yard freestyle by nine and one-half seconds by recording a time of 4:59.57. Freshman
Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) tallied the team's final individual victory by topping the field in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:02.33.
the Dolphins return to the pool on Thursday, February 16 for the first day of the four-day Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which will be held Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.
