Worcester, Mass. – Julia Chappell and Camille Latoni were double winners to lead Assumption College to a 5-4 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon.
The Greyhounds took a 2-1 lead in the match through the doubles competition. Chappell teamed with Cassie Burbine at the top position to record an 8-4 win over senior
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) and freshman
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit).Latoni and Veronica Op also were 8-4 winners at the third spot over freshmen
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)). Le Moyne earned its first point of the afternoon as senior
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and junior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) defeated Paige Benoit and Valeria Sanchez at the second position, 8-4.
The teams split the singles competition as the Greyhounds captured the match. Chappell recorded her second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the second position over Hamdan. Latoni tallied a 6-3, 6-0 win over Humala at the sixth spot. Maria Monje closed out the win for the Greyhounds by rallying for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory at the fourth position against St. Antoine.
For the Dolphins, Vajjiravelu earned her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top position over Burbine. Benoit-Limosani improved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Benoit at the third spot. Nunez tallied Le Moyne's fourth point of the match by defeating Sanchez, 6-4, 4-6, 8-6.
Le Moyne (2-2, 2-2 NE10) returns to action at the ITA East Regional Friday through Sunday at the U.S. Tennis Association National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
