MEN’S GOLF OPENS SEASON AT PENMEN FALL INVITATIONAL

Hanover, Mass. – Senior Daniel Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) shot a career-best 142 to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at Southern New Hampshire University's Penmen Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-69, 6510-yard Hanover Country Club.

The host Penmen captured the team competition with a three-over par 555. They carded a one-over 277 in the first round to place second and moved up to first with 278 on Tuesday. Saint Thomas Aquinas College placed second with a 558 following rounds of 283 and one-under par 275, the best round of the event. Bentley University carded a two-day total of 564 to place third off rounds of 280 and 284. The Dolphins tallied a three-over 279 on Monday to land in third place, but slipped to sixth with a 294 in the second round to finish with a 573. The 279 is the best single-round score by the Dolphins over the last 15 seasons, while the 573 is the best 36-hole score in the span. Southern New Hampshire's Matt Paradis claimed medalist honors with a three-under par 135 following rounds of one-under 68 and two-under 67.
 
Thomas finished in a six-way tie for 12th place with his four-over par 142, the lowest 36-hole score of his career by eight shots and his best score in relation to par by two strokes. He opened the invitational with a career-best 70 to land in a nine-way tie for 10th place and followed on Tuesday with a 72, which matched his previous-best round.

Senior Jake Eno (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) placed in a seven-way tie for 18th with a career-best total of 143, also eight better than his previous-best mark. He turned in a one-under par 68, his first career round under par, in the first round to tie for fourth place and then posted a 75, which ties his previous-best score, in the second round.

Sophomore Jonathan Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) also was part of the tie for 18th with a career-best 143, one stroke better than his best score last year. He registered a 72 on Monday land in a seven-way tie for 30th and climbed 12 spots in the standings with a 71 in the second round.

Senior Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) finished in a three-way tie for 34th place with a 146. He joined Thomas as part of the tie for 10th after a first-round 70, which is tied for the second-best round of his career, but slipped in the standings following a 76 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Nicholas Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) carded a career-best 149 (five shots better than his previous best) to finish in a three-way tie for 45th. He tallied a career-best round of 71 in the first round to place in an 11-way tie for 19th and followed with a 78 on Tuesday.
 
Le Moyne returns to New Hampshire for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3 at Lake Sunapee Country Club in New London, N.H.
