Cicero, N.Y. – Junior
Ryan Johnson (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) tied for second place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a tie for third place at its home invitational on Friday and Saturday at the par-72, 6506-yard Lake Shore Yacht and Country Club.
Assumption College and Laval University tied for first in the team competition with a 586 over the 36 holes. Assumption posted a 297 in the first round to place sixth and followed with a 289, the best score of the invitational, to move to the top of the leaderboard. Laval opened with a 293 to take the day-one lead and then carded another 293 to maintain its place at the top of the standings. Le Moyne, Concordia College and Southern New Hampshire finished in a three-way tie for third place with a two-day score of 589. Le Moyne posted a 295 in the first round to land in second place and then posted a 294. Concordia and Southern New Hampshire each recorded a 296 in the first round and a 293 in the second round. Assumption's AJ Sanzaro earned medalist honors by one stroke with a four-under par 140 after back-to-back rounds of two-under par 70.
Johnson finished in a five-way tie for second place with a career-best three-under par score of 141. He opened the invitational with a career-best (by four shots) four-under par 68, which featured an invitational-best six birdies, to take a one-shot lead on the 89-member field. He recorded three birdies in the second round en route to a one-over par 73 to finish in the tie for second place.
Freshman
Maxwell Dec (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) registered a career-best 148 to finish in an eight-way tie for 15th place. He carded five birdies en route to a career best-tying 73 in the first round to land in a seven-way tie for 10th place. He followed with a 75 on Saturday, including a pair of birdies, to finish at 148.
Senior
Jonathan Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and freshman
Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) finished as part of an eight-way tie for 31st place with a 151. Petrin opened with a 77 to place in an eight-way tie for 36th and then carded a 74 to move up five places. Bove posted a 79 in the first round to land in a seven-way tie for 52nd and then turned in an even-par 72 to jump 21 spots in the standings.
Senior
Nicholas Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) rounded out the team with a 155 to place 57th. He joined Petrin as part of the tie for 36th with a 77 in the first round and followed with a 78 in the second round.
The Dolphins return to the links on Monday, October 28 for 36 holes at the McDonough Cup hosted by Rollins College at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
