Syracuse, N.Y.- The Le Moyne College men's golf team finished in a tie for second after a soggy first round at its home invitational.
The tournament was held at a rainy Bellevue Country Club and played as a par 71 from 6498 yards. Assumption topped all 16 teams in the first round with a combined score of 296. The Dolphins and Post University are just three shots back with combined scores of 299. Southern New Hampshire's AJ Cavotta is leading the individual competition with a score of 70. He is two strokes up on sophomore
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and Assumption's Jack Moy, who had a hole in one on the seventh hole.
For the Dolphins, Birdd led the way shooting a 72 and finishing in a tie for second after carding 13 pars, tied for the second-most in the round. He is just two shots off the lead going into tomorrow's second round. Sophomore
Spencer Baum (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) finished in a tie for seventh after a round of 74, which featured four birdies, tied for the second-most at the event..
Graduate student
Ryan Johnson (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) shot a 76, placing him in a tie for 20th. Freshman
Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Malius Pebble Hill) finished in a tie for 32nd after a round of 77. Junior
Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) shot a score of 79, placing him in a tie for 43rd.
Sophomore
Justin Fiato (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton), senior
Jack Haxton (Orchard Park, N.Y./St. Francis), and junior
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) all played as individuals and all shot a 76 and finished in a tie for 20th. Sophomore
Anthony Falgiatano (Cicero, N.Y./Bishop Grimes), junior
Maxwell Dec (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), and junior
Noah Unger (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) also played as individuals and all shot scores of 82, placing them in a tie for 61st.
