WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING PLACES SECOND, MEN TIE FOR SECOND AT HARTWICK RELAYS

Oneonta, N.Y. – Redshirt freshman Grace Thomas (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) registered four second-place finishes to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team to a second-place finish at the Hartwick College Relays on Saturday at Moyer Pool. The men's team recorded a tie for second place.

On the women's side, Brandeis University placed first with 126 points. The Dolphins finished second with 98 points, while The College of Saint Rose placed third with 90 points. Oneonta was fourth with 86 points and Hartwick rounded out the standings with 64 points.

Brandeis also placed first on the men's side with 136 points. The Dolphins and the host Hawks tied for second place with 96 points. Oneonta scored 72 points and Saint Rose was fifth with 50 points.

For the women, Thomas teamed with senior Mikael Ann Melfi (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands), freshman Hannah Kellogg (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) and junior Caitlyn Longway (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) to place second in the 400-yard medley relay in 4:15.24. Thomas then teamed with senior Jordyn Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) and junior Genevieve Kikukawa (Kalaupapa, Hawaii/University Laboratory School) to place second in the 3x100-yard backstroke with a combined time of 3:12.53.

Sommo and Longway teamed with redshirt freshman MaryLauren Burke (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and senior Vicky Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) to finish second in the 850-yard crescendo relay in 9:13.46.

Kikukawa, Kellogg, Burke and Longway finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.59.

Thomas and Burke combined with freshman Ella Kaback (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) and redshirt freshman Jessica Testone (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) to place second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.15.

Thomas and Melfi joined redshirt freshmen Veronika Nelson (Vernon Center, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and Lily Buchholz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) to close out the meet by placing second in the 800-yard medley relay in 9:43.01.

On the men's side, junior Charles Morris (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), redshirt freshman Ryan McMahon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and Alex Turczyn (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) placed second in the 3x100-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 3:13.96.

Morris teamed with freshmen Dominic Fratto (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo), Belal Hamad (Syracuse, N.Y./PSAL at Fowler) and Ezra Webster (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) to place second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.06.

Hamad, Turczyn and Morris teamed with redshirt freshman Logan Bronecki (Hemlock, N.Y./Livonia) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay by over two seconds with a time of 3:18.51.


The Dolphins are back in the pool on Saturday hosting Saint Michael's College at 1:00 p.m.
