MEN’S GOLF IN A TIE FOR 11TH AFTER FIRST DAY OF THE MCDONOUGH CUP

Orlando, F.L.- The Le Moyne College Men's golf team participated in the McDonough Cup today, hosted by Rollins College. After the first day, which featured the first two rounds, the Dolphins sit in a tie for 11th place.

The tournament is being held at Rio Pinar Country Club, which is being played as a par 72 from 7001 yards. #19 Nova Southeastern is currently leading the team competition. After finishing round one with a combined score of 278, they shot a combined score of 283 in the second, giving them a score of 561 after day one. The Sharks' Javier Calles is leading the individual competition with a combined score of seven-under par 137 after rounds of 65 and 72. The Dolphins are in 11th after a first round score of 310 and a second round score of 295, giving them a total of 605.

Three Dolphins are in a tie for 50th, after each shooting a combined 151 through two rounds. Sophomore Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./ Iroquois) shot a 76 in the first round and a 75 in the second. His first round was highlighted by a birdie on the 10th hole and a total of 12 pars, while his second round had three birdies. Graduate student Ryan Johnson (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) tallied four birdies in his first round on his way to a 77. His second round featured two more birdies, giving him six total and leading to a score of 74. Junior Spencer Baum (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) registered a first round score of 81 but rebounded with a two-under score of 70 in the second round, which is tied for fourth lowest in the second round. He played the front nine at an even par 36 with two birdies before closing out with a two-under 34 on the back, which featured two more birdies and an eagle on the 15th hole. 

Freshman Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) sits in a tie for 64th with a total score of 155 after rounds of 79 and 76. His second round featured two birdies and nine pars. Junior Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee)  is currently tied for 70th after rounds of 78 and 80 for a combined 158. 

Juniors Luke Barney (Apalchin, N.Y./Vestal) and Maxwell Dec (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) participated as individuals. Dec sits in 68th with a 156 after two rounds of 78. Barney is in a tie for 69th with a combined score of 157 off of rounds of 80 and 77.
