Glen Cove, N.Y. – Senior
Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) tied for fifth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Nassau Invitational hosted by Long Island University on Monday and Tuesday at the par-70, 6776-yard Nassau Country Club.
The 10-team invitational featured nine Division-I programs and the Dolphins, who totaled a 900 over the 54 holes to place seventh off scores of 299, 303 and 298. St. John's University won the team championship with a total of 858 following rounds of 299, 281 and two-under par 278. Army West Point placed second with an 871 off scores of 289, 293 and 289. Bucknell University finished third at 873 after rounds of 292, 296 and 285. Tyler Gerbavsits from St. John's earned medalist honors with a two-under par 208 following rounds of 72, 68 and 68.
Bove finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the 57-member field with a three-round score of 215. He opened with a 74 to land in a nine-way tie for 16th place. He followed with a 72 in the afternoon to move up into a six-way tie for eighth place. Bove closed out the invitational with a one-under par 69 – his fifth round of the season under par – to climb another three spots in the standings.
Junior
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and sophomore
Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) finished in a tie for 34th place at 227. Birdd opened with a 73 to land in a five-way tie for 11th, turned in a 77 in the second round to place in a three-way tie for 26th and closed out with another 77 for his final placement. Gruninger carded a 75 in the first round to place in a seven-way tie for 25th, followed with a 76 to land in a five-way tie for 29th and then recorded another 76 in the final round.
Freshman
Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) tied for 44th place with a 233. He tallied a 79 in the first round to finish in a four-way tie for 42nd, then posted a 78 in the afternoon to place 50th and completed play with a 76 to move into a tie for 44th.
Senior
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) tied for 47th place with a 235. He posted a 77 in the morning to land in a five-way tie for 34th, a 79 in the second round to move to a tie for 48th and tallied another 79 on Tuesday to finish in a four-way tie for 47th.
Sophomore
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), who played as an individual, tied for 25th with a career-best 223. He recorded a 75 in the first round, a 72 in round two and capped with a 76.
The Dolphins close out the Fall season on Monday and Tuesday at Rollins College's McDonough Cup at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Florida.
