MOREAU NAMED NE10 GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

10/3/2022 3:04:00 PM

Mansfield, Mass. – After a great week for the Le Moyne College women's soccer team during which they earned six points in the NE10 standings by recording a 3-1 win at home over #25 Franklin Pierce University, followed by a 2-0 road win over University of New Haven, the team nearly claimed all four of the conference's weekly awards.

Sophomore defender Hildur Unnarsdóttir Kópavogur, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) was named NE10 Player of the Week for the second time this season and also earned Defender of the Week honors, while senior goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) was selected as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season after recording a combined 12 saves during Le Moyne's 2-0 week, which included a shutout victory at New Haven.

Freshman forward Avery Maxam (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) certainly had a case for NE10 Rookie of the Week after scoring two goals against UNH, but the award went to Saint Rose rookie Madelyn Wania.

Moreau recorded five saves against the Chargers, including three in the second half to earn her fourth clean sheet of the season, a total that is just one behind the conference lead of five clean sheets that is held by four players currently (Allen of SCSU, Bozic of Saint Rose, Escobedo of Saint Michael's, and Sousa of AIC).

Moreau's 49 total saves on the season is the fifth highest total among NE10 goalkeepers, and she is just four saves away from tying New Haven's Amanda McQuillan's current season save tally of 53 which is the second most in the conference behind SCSU's Abigail Allen, who leads the NE10 with 60 total saves in 11 games played.

Moreau was instrumental in the Dolphins' 3-1 victory over #25 Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, recording seven saves against a Ravens squad that was previously 6-1-1 with 14 goals scored through their first eight games of the 2022 campaign.

The Le Moyne College women's soccer team has earned at least one point in each of their last three conference games, and on Wednesday they will have the opportunity to test themselves against a very good non-conference opponent in #17 Mercy College.

The Dolphins will travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on the Mavericks who are ranked 17th in the nation and second in the East Region with a 8-1-0 record so far in 2022.

Mercy, who competes in the East Coast Conference, lost to Franklin Pierce by a score of 1-0 in their season-opening match but followed that up with a 7-2 win against NE10 member Southern Connecticut State.

The Mavericks also recorded a 1-0 win against Adelphi University, who the Dolphins will face in NE10 play on October 22, as well as a 2-0 win over ECC opponent Daemen, who Le Moyne tied 0-0 during a non-conference match in August.
