MEN’S GOLF PLACES SECOND AT CROFTON INVITATIONAL IN SPRING OPENER

Crofton, Md. – Sophomore Spencer Baum (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) placed second to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Crofton Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72 Crofton Country Club.

Mercyhurst University, which currently ranks sixth in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings, won the team championship with a two-day score of 602 off of rounds of 308 and 294. The Dolphins, who are third in the East Region rankings, earned their third second-place finish of the year by posting a 613 following rounds of 311 and 302. The host Vulcans, who are seventh in the Atlantic Region rankings, finished third with a 620 off rounds of 318 and 302. Mercyhurst's Ryan Ferry earned medalist honors after shooting an even-par 144 off rounds of 74 and 70, the best round of the invitational.

Baum registered his best career finish by recording a 146 over the 36 holes after consecutive rounds of 73. Junior Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) placed in a five-way tie for 14th place with a total of 155 following rounds of 78 and 77. Sophomore Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and freshman Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) were part of a five-way tie for 19th place at 156. Birdd posted back-to-back rounds of 78, while Gruninger carded an 82 and a 74. Graduate student Ryan Johnson (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) rounded out the team's competitors with a 162 to tie for 39th after scores of 82 and 80.

Le Moyne is back on the links at Barry University's Battle at the Shores on April 4 and 5 at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach, Florida.
