Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team will begin their 16-game 2022 regular-season schedule on Thursday afternoon as they are set to take on Chestnut Hill College at 1:00 p.m. on Ted Grant Field to begin the day's soccer doubleheader. The Le Moyne men's team will also open their season on Thursday afternoon at home with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference battle against Caldwell University.
The Dolphins women's team went 2-10-3 during the 2021 season, with all three draws occurring against Northeast-10 Conference competition. The team will be led by a new coaching staff this fall, and the roster features 15 first year players to go along with 14 returners.
Former Cornell University men's soccer head coach
Jaro Zawislan will serve as the interim head coach for the Dolphins this season, and he'll be assisted by
Sean Nevison and
Ethan Hayner.
Marissa Lisikatos (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) is counted among the 14 players on the 2022 Le Moyne team that have past playing experience with the Dolphins, but she also has coaching experience on The Heights. Lisikatos spent the 2021 campaign as an assistant coach under Carrie Bonus, but this season she will return to the field as a graduate student and midfielder for the 'Phins. After a redshirt year in 2017, Lisikatos made seven starts during the 2018 campaign and appeared in 16 games overall as a midfielder.
Senior
Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) will be an important returning player for the 'Phins, as the 5'10" goalkeeper led the 2021 team in minutes played, seeing 1,380 minutes of action throughout 14 starts in goal last season. Moreau was second amongst all Northeast-10 Conference goalies with 109 saves in 2021 as one of only two keepers in the conference to accumulate at least 100 saves on the year.
Midfielder
Magda Aspholm (Östersund, Sweden/Jämtlands Gymnasium Wargentin), defender
Hildur Unnarsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland), and midfielder
Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) each return to the team in 2022 after playing over 1,000 minutes during their first regular season with the Dolphins in 2021. Aspholm and Casey each started 11 matches last season as redshirt-freshmen, while Unnarsdóttir was in the starting lineup for 12 matches as an outside back and led the team with three assists as a true freshman in 2021.
Casey contributed three goals to the Le Moyne cause during her first collegiate season last fall, which was tied with
Amya Naja for most on the team. Aspholm played 1,132 minutes in the middle of the field for the 'Phins last season and performed admirably as a box-to-box midfielder.
Sophomore defender
Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) will also return to The Heights after making an impact as a first-year player in 2021. Wilson was a versatile athlete for the 'Phins during her first collegiate season one year ago, starting 11 matches and playing a total of 997 minutes during 14 appearances. She scored a goal during the second game of the 2021 regular season and led the team with nine shots on goal throughout the campaign.
Fifth year senior
Lainey Foti (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) also scored a goal during the 2021 season and made 13 starts as a midfielder for the 'Phins. Throughout three full seasons as a Dolphin, Foti has been featured in the starting lineup for 38 total matches and has contributed four goals throughout her Le Moyne career.
Reagan Sames (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and
Caterina Vasile (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland) will also return as upperclassmen for the 'Phins in 2022. Vasile appeared in five games last season, mostly as a forward, while Sames appeared in 10 matches and made five starts as a defender.
Katelyn Courcy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy),
Camille Burruano (Buffalo, N.Y./Grand Island) and
Rylee Alston (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) are each set to begin their second full regular season competing for the Dolphins. Alston appeared in nine games as a substitute during her redshirt-freshman season in 2021, while Burruano was an important part of the Le Moyne back line as a true freshman during the first three games of the season before suffering a season-ending injury during extra time of the match against Pace University.
Redshirt-sophomore
Elizabeth Western (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) and sophomore
Maya Kamberaj (West Seneca West) return as goalkeeper options for the 'Phins in 2022, while first year player
Sarah Boyea (Syracuse, N.Y.) will round out the goaltender unit.
The rest of the women's soccer freshman class of athletes includes
Kayla Maslak (Lancaster, N.Y.),

The Chestnut Hill College Griffins compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and put together a 6-8-1 overall record in 2021. The Griffins are led by head coach Jonathan Geist and they return their top four goal scorers from last season.
Madeline Jimenez, a graduate forward on this year's team, led the Griffins with 10 goals and three assists during the 2021 season and put 30 shots on goal throughout 14 starts.
Abigail Galazka started 10 games, scored four goals and delivered three assists as a true freshman last season, while Olivia Medeiros also provided four goals in 2021 for the Griffins.
