BOVE AND MEN’S GOLF PLACE FOURTH AT FRANKLIN PIERCE FALL INVITATIONAL

Townsend, Mass. – Senior Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) tied for fourth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the par-70, 6184-yard Northern Spy Golf Club.

The host Ravens won the team competition with a two-day score of 577 off rounds of 298 and a one-under par 279 to vault up the leaderboard. Assumption University placed second with a 580 after posting a 294 in the first round to place second and a 286 on day two. Southern New Hampshire University was one shot back in third after opening with a 286 to take an eight-shot lead and then turning in a 295 to slide to third. Le Moyne tallied a 584 to place fourth following rounds of 299 and 285, the second-best score of the event. The 584 is the eighth-best 36-hole mark by the program over the last 30 years and is the best since a 582 at the Post Eagles Invitational on October 8 and 9, 2018, while the 285 is sixth-best round by the program over the last 30 years and is the best since a 283 at the Post Eagles Invitational on October 9, 2018.

Bove tied for fourth place in the 84-member field with a career-best one-under par score of 139, which is tied for the fourth-best mark by a Dolphin over the last 30 years and is the best since Jonathan Petrin at the Penmen Fall Invitational on September 23, 2019. He opened with an even-par round of 70, including four birdies and 11 pars, to land in a tie for fifth place. He then tallied a one-under par 69, including three birdies and 13 pars, to move up one spot.

Junior Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) finished 11th with a career-best 143 after recording a 75 in the first round and following with a two-under par 68. The 68 is tied for his career-best and the third time he has tallied the mark, which is tied for the eighth-best by a Dolphin over the last 30 years.

Senior Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y. / Vestal) and sophomore Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) were part of a five-way tie for 26th place with scores of 151. Barney, who recorded a career-best total, opened with a 76 and followed with a 75. Gruninger tallied a 78 in the first round and then turned in a 73 on Sunday.

Sophomore Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), who played as part of the team for the first time in his career, placed 58th with a 161 off rounds of 86 and a career-best 75, which included three birdies.

Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday and Monday for the 54-hole Penmen Fall Invitational at Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord, N.H.
