Concord, N.H. – Junior
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) tied for ninth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Penmen Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6500-yard Beaver Meadow Golf Club.
The host Penmen won the team competition with a two-day score of 583 after posting a 297 in the first round and then carding an invitational-best 286 on Tuesday. Assumption University placed second with a 587 off rounds of 290 and 297. The Dolphins finished third with a 596 after placing first after the first round with a 289 and then posting a 307 in the second round to drop two places in the standings. Merrimack College's Patrick McCarthy earned medalist honors with a four-under par 140 off rounds of one-under 71 and three-under 69.
Birdd finished in a five-way tie for ninth with a 147 following scores of 76 and one-under 71. Senior
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) was one shot back in a three-way tie for 14th off rounds of a career best-tying 73 and 75. Senior
Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), the first round leader with a three-under 69, placed in a tie for 21st with a 150 after posting an 81 on day two. Sophomore
Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) recorded a 151 to finish in a tie for 23rd after rounds of 71 and 80. Freshman
Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished in a three-way tie for 49th with a 158 in his collegiate debut after scores of 77 and 81.
Le Moyne returns to the links for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Sunday and Monday at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y.
