Mansfield, Mass. – Women's basketball first-year guard
Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, per the conference's Week 10 Women's Basketball Report. Linnin has earned the weekly award in two of the last three weeks, and it is the fourth time this season that a Le Moyne player has received conference Rookie of the Week honors.
During Le Moyne's 74-63 win at Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Linnin led all scorers with a season-high 22 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, including 6-9 from beyond the three-point line, in 32 minutes played.
Linnin's six made three-point field goals against the Owls set a program record for most threes made in a single game by a freshman player. Three of those triples came during the fourth quarter as Le Moyne outscored SCSU 23-16 in the final period to earn a big conference win on the road.
On Saturday afternoon, the freshman guard played 31 minutes during Le Moyne's home win over Bentley University, who entered the contest tied for first place in the NE10 standings.
Linnin played her part in the Dolphins' dominant defensive effort as they held the Falcons to their lowest scoring total of the year during a 53-38 Le Moyne win. She shot 3-7 from the field and finished with seven points and three rebounds.
Senior guard
Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll after two outstanding performances during Le Moyne's 2-0 week.
Baker tallied 13 points, a season-high eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes of action against the Owls, then she delivered 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds on Saturday against the Falcons. Baker's 18 rebounds are tied for the fifth-most boards corralled in a single game in program history, and the second-most rebounds pulled down by a Le Moyne player during an Northeast-10 Conference game (The record for most rebounds in a conference game in Le Moyne women's basketball program history is held by assistant coach Joanna Dobrovosky who recorded 20 rebounds against Southern Connecticut State on December 20, 2016).
Baker now has 12 double-doubles on the season, which is the highest total among all players in the NE10.
Up next, the Le Moyne College women's basketball team (13-5, 8-4 NE10) will travel to Pleasantville, New York for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup against Pace on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
