Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College Play of the Week, presented by Sodexo, for January 9 occurred during the women's basketball team's 75-51 Northeast-10 Conference victory at home over Saint Michael's College on Wednesday.
With 8:30 remaining in the third quarter, the Dolphins were on defense following a deep three-point field goal from
Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) during the previous possession that extended their lead to 42-25.
As a Saint Michael's player drove against
Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) towards the right block,
Kaia Goode (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) helped off her player on the perimeter and stripped the ball away from the dribbler.
Linnin pounced on the loose ball and pushed it up the left side of the floor.
As soon as Le Moyne gained possession, senior guard
Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), who was positioned near the hoop on defense, broke into a full sprint up the right wing.
The Saint Michael's player who committed the turnover hustled back and was shoulder to shoulder with Linnin as she dribbled across halfcourt.
Linnin skillfully launched a left-handed pass across the court, over the head of the last Saint Michael's defender, into Baker's path.
As Baker read the trajectory of the pass, she slowed slightly, jumped to make a contested catch over the defender, landed on two feet just above the right block, and immediately sent a pass across the paint to Goode who quickly put her layup off the glass and in to make it 44-25 in favor of the Dolphins.
The Le Moyne College women's basketball team (10-5, 5-4 NE10) will be back in action on Saturday, January 14, when they host Southern New Hampshire University for a 1:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference battle on Ted Grant Court.
