Buffalo, N.Y. – Freshman Michael Purvis (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) placed 29th to lead the Le Moyne College men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Canisius University Alumni Classic on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Park. Redshirt junior Sophia Bisognano (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) led the women's team to an eighth-place finish by placing 15th.

"I was thrilled with how the team ran today," said head coach Robin Wheeless. "I love when people risk pushing too hard in the first half of the race. They all ran well and some found out they have even more than they thought. One of my favorite quotes is TS Elliot 'Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go'. I'm excited for the conference championship in a couple of weeks. We should be ready with everyone by then."

Binghamton University tallied three of the top four scorers in the men's race and five of the top 12 to place first with 30 points. The host Golden Griffins finished second with 41 points after having five of the top 15 scorers, while Buffalo was third with 87 points. The Dolphins finished in sixth place with 164 points. Binghamton's Josh Stone won the race individually by crossing the finish line first by almost four seconds in 24:03.6.

Purvis was the Dolphins' top finisher for the first time in his career by placing 29th in 26:11.8 over the eight-kilometer course. Classmate Tyler Cooper (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) placed 33rd in 26:17.8, while junior Jack Gibson (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) was 41st in 26:37.3.
