Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) finished in ninth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to an 11th-place finish at the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate hosted by Binghamton University on Sunday and Monday at the par-72 The Links at Hiawatha Landing.
Villanova University won the team competition by two strokes with a total of five-under par 571 off rounds of one-under 287 and four-under 284. The host Bearcats and St. Bonaventure University tied for second place with a three-under par 573. Binghamton posted rounds of 290 and 283, while the Bonnies tallied scores of 293 and eight-under 280. The Dolphins registered a total of 590 off rounds of 290 and 300 to place 11th. Devin Smith from Mount St. Mary's earned medalist honors with a nine-under par 135 after recording scores of four-under 68 and five-under 67.
Bove registered the second-best 36-hole score of his career with a three-under 141 to finish ninth in the field of 87 competitors. He opened with a two-under 70, which featured four birdies, to land in a three-way tie for seventh place. He followed with a one-under par 71, which included five birdies, on Monday to finish ninth. He finished under par in both rounds of a 36-hole event for the first time in his career (16 events).
Freshman
Owen Corby (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) finished in a nine-way tie for 17th place with a one-over par 145. He opened with an even-par 72 to land in a 10-way tie for 17th. He followed with a 73 on Monday to maintain the hold on a tie for 17th place.
Sophomore
Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) registered a career best-tying 148 to finish in a 10-way tie for 37th place. He recorded a career best-tying one-under par 71 in the first round to land in a seven-way tie for 10th place. He shot a 77 in the second round to dip in the standings.
Senior
Spencer Baum (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) finished in a seven-way tie for 67th place with a 156. He opened with a 77 to land in a five-way tie for 65th place and then followed with a 79 on Monday.
Graduate student
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) recorded a 159 to place in a three-way tie for 79th. He posted a 78 in the first round to land in a six-way tie for 68th and an 81 on Monday.
The Dolphins are back on the course on Monday and Tuesday at Post University's Eagles Invitational at Watertown Golf Club in Watertown, Connecticut.
