Lebanon, Pa. – Senior
Luke Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) tied for 14th place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Regional Preview hosted by PennWest California on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 7026-yard Iron Valley Golf Club.
Gannon University, the second-ranked team in the Atlantic Region, won the team competition by one shot with a two-day total of 596 off rounds of 301 and an event-best 295. St. Thomas Aquinas College, the top-ranked team in the East Region, placed second after posting a round one-best score of 299 and then a 298 to finish at 597. Davis & Elkins College, the Atlantic's third-ranked team, finished third with a 602 after scores of 305 and 297. The Dolphins, the second-ranked team in the East, recorded a 606 over the 36 holes with a 301 and a 305. Gannon's Giovanni Delorenzi captured medalist honors by three shots with a one-under par 143 off rounds of four-under par 68 and a 75.
Barney, who was Le Moyne's top finisher for the first time in his career, was one of 10 players in the tie for 14th place after registering a 36-hole score of 150, including seven birdies (tied for the eighth-most). He turned in a 77, which featured three birdies, on Monday to land in a seven-way tie for 39th place. He jumped up 25 places in the standings on Tuesday with a 73, which featured four birdies over holes 13 through 17.
Freshman
Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished in a seven-way tie for 24th place with a 151, which featured a tournament-best 27 pars. He opened with a 73, including a pair of birdies, to land in an eight-way tie for fifth place. He then posted 14 pars en route to a 78 in the second round. He finished even-par on the eight par-3s, tied for the third-best among the 132 competitors.
Senior
Nicholas Bove (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) totaled a 152, including eight birdies (tied for the third-most) to finish in an eight-way tie for 31st place. He posted a 76, including three birdies, in the opening round to land in an 11-way tie for 28th place. He recorded another 76, which featured five birdies, including four over holes five through nine, on day two.
Junior
Tyler Birdd (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) tied for 39th place with a 153. He registered a 75 on the first day to tie for 21st place. He then recorded three birdies as part of a round of 78.
Sophomore
Johnny Gruninger (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) rounded out the lineup with a 161 to finish in a six-way tie for 88th off rounds of 78 and 83.
The Dolphins will now await their seeding for the upcoming NCAA Championship Atlantic/East Regional. The 10-team field for the East Region will be announced by the NCAA on Friday evening. In last week's regional rankings, the Dolphins were ranked second. The Atlantic/East Regional will be contested May 11-13 back at Iron Valley Golf Club and hosted by Millersville University.
